The Cedar Tree House

The Cedar Tree House isn't a treehouse, nor is it made out of cedar (except for the exterior soffits, of course). The homeowners named it after the enormous Western Red Cedar tree that grows in the northwest corner of the yard.

The house is a beautiful example of Northwest Contemporary architecture, featuring as it does materials native to the Pacific Northwest -- Douglas fir exposed beams and interior doors; white oak flooring and cabinetry; and the aforementioned cedar soffits -- while maintaining a strong connection to the outdoors. Also check out the thoughtful tilework (each bathroom is different, but they fit together as a harmonious whole) and the special space in the garage for the homeowners' trailer, complete with a fully outfitted RV hookup. Architectural design by Schuyler Tutt, of Box & Gable Architects and photography by Northwest Residential Photography.
